Dhaka: Pakistan's left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz earned a dubious distinction Tuesday as his team suffered an ignominious 140-run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur here. Riaz conceded 86 runs from 9.2 overs for his two wickets and his figures were the worst ever by a Pakistani against India. The previous record was held by Ata-ur-Rehman (10-0-85-1) at Sharjah on April 15, 1996. Riaz's figures are now the second worst by a bowler against India in ODIs. The following are the other statistical highlights of the day: India's 140-run triumph is their biggest win in terms of runs against Pakistan, eclipsing their 87-run win at Cochin on April 2, 2005. India's win is their 44th against Pakistan in 114 ODIs (Lost 66, No Result 4). India have won 5 out of 7 played against Pakistan in Bangladesh. Pakistan lost their first game in 13 ODIs. India (330-8) registered a total of 300-plus after a gap of 13 ODIs. India's last total of 300 or more was recorded against Pakistan at Mohali on Nov.8, 2007 when batting first, they had made 321 for 9, losing the game by 4 wickets. Overall, India's aforesaid total is their third highest against Pakistan - their top two totals being 356 for 9 at Visakhapatnam on April 5, 2005 and 349 for 7 at Karachi on March 13, 2004. India's 330-8 is the first ever total of 300 at Mirpur, surpassing Bangladesh's 293 for 7 against Ireland on March 22, 2008. India's total of 330-8 is their highest against Pakistan in Bangladesh, eclipsing their 316 for 7 at Dhaka on January 18, 1998. India's aforesaid total is now their second highest in Bangladesh, next only to their 348 for 5 against Bangladesh at Dhaka on December 27, 2004. India and Pakistan appeared in their 114th ODI, equalling the record of Australia-West Indies, who have played 114 against each other. Virender Sehwag (89 off 76 balls) posted his 26th fifty - his first fifty in ten innings - his first during the last one year. He had last made a fifty (52 off 38 balls) in ODIs for Asia XI vs. Africa XI at Chennai on June 9, 2007. Sehwag's last fifty-plus for India was recorded in the World Cup against Bermuda at Port of Spain on 19.3.2007 - 114 off 87 balls. Gautam Gambhir (62 off 62 balls) registered his highest ODI score against Pakistan, eclipsing his 57 off 68 balls at Mohali on November 8, 2007. Sehwag and Gambhir put on 155 runs for the first wicket - India's 9th century stand for this wicket-position against Pakistan. The aforesaid partnership is India's second century stand for the first wicket against Pakistan in Bangladesh, next only to their 159 (Indian record against Pakistan)between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar at Dhaka on January 14, 1998.
