‘Give preference to Marathi students’ Continuing to play the ‘Marathi manoos’ card, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday (June 17) warned colleges run by the minority communities here to give preference to local Marathi students in admissions, failing which they would launch agitation against them. “We have asked the minority-status colleges in Mumbai to give preference to local Marathi students in the admission process or else face our ire,” Shirish Parkar, spokesman, MNS said. The Raj Thackeray-led party had launched a violent campaign against the north Indian migrants in the city accusing them of “polluting” Marathi culture. MNS had also demanded that industries in Maharashtra should reserve 80 per cent of the jobs for the locals, evoking strong protest from industry bodies.
