Zardari Says Couldn’t Endorse Nov 3 Measures

LAHORE: PPP’s Co-chairman Asif Zardari says his party never accepted General pervez Musharraf as the constitutional president of Pakistan and it could not endorsed November 3 measures. Mr Zardari, while talking to newsmen at Punjab Governors’ House today, said the PPP always challenged Gen Musharraf’s legitimacy as the president from the day one. However, he avoided to give direct answer to a question about Musharraf’s impeachment. he says if Musharraf quits his office, the PPP would bring a consensus president after having consultation with other coalitions partners including PML-N, ANP and MQM. The PPP co-chairperson got emotionally charged while responding to a question about NRO. He said he spent five years in prison during Musharraf’s rule, Shaheed BB went into exile and his father hakim Zardari was also arrested. He said Musharraf tried to prove allegation against him and spent billions of rupees for the purpose but failed to convict him in a single case therefore NRO is meaningless for him. About judiciary, he said that independent judiciary does not mean an individual but an institution. He said he stands committed to his promise for restoration of judges. He says the government would form an advisory board for reforms of judicial system. About differences with the PML-N, he said its a routine matter in the democratic process. He said the two parties had some difference of opinion earlier but now they have overcome them. He said that the PPP believes in revenge through democracy, and he took his revenge by holding a public meeting in the governors house yesterday from where he was arrested in 1996.
