This little book was owned by Martha Washington and there are two events she recorded in it about her grandchildren.
Now the reason I was on Mt. Vernon's site is that I just watched "The Search for George Washington" on the History Channel. Awhile ago, Michael blogged about this quest as well - that Mt. Vernon was trying to get real life statues of Washington at 19, 45 and 57. I find this fascinating as what we mostly know about Washington is iconic and this quest to find what he really looked and acted like is great history. Below are the heads and then you can find more at the site. I really found the final statues a lot of fun to look at - really different than that picture of Washington we carry in our heads from the icons.
