Gilani celebrates birthday mid-air

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani celebrated his 56th birthday mid-air while on his way back home from an official visit to Saudi Arabia. Gilani, who turned 56, was surprised when the crew of his special aircraft created a cake of chocolate pastries to celebrate his birthday on Sunday (June 8). He cut the cake as the clock struck midnight and his family and personal staff sang "Happy Birthday" at an altitude of 5,200 feet a few kilometres south of Islamabad. Gilani, who became Prime Minister in March, was born in Karachi on June 9, 1952. Gilani returned to Pakistan early this morning after his official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and discussed matters of bilateral interest and the international situation with the Saudi leadership. The Prime Minister, who was joined in Saudi Arabia by ruling Pakistan People's Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, also sought oil supplies against deferred payments from King Abdullah. The Saudi leadership assured Gilani that they would consider the request in order to help Pakistan to tide over a major financial crisis. (With inputs from PTI)
