KUWAIT CITY: US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama arrived Sunday in Kuwait, kicking off a Middle East tour after he had visited war-torn Afghanistan.
Obama was received by Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah and both had discussed "matters of mutual interest."
Kuwait's ruler also hosted Obama for dinner, it said, without clarifying whether he had later left the country for his next stop.
The Obama campaign, which has been keeping details of his itinerary secret for security reasons, had no immediate comment on reports the Senator was in Kuwait.
Obama is expected to visit Iraq. He is also expected in Jordan for talks with King Abdullah II on Monday.
