Guv reshuffle: Jamir moved to Maha, Rau to HP
In a reshuffle of heads of Raj Bhawans in three states, FSC Jamir was today (July 8) transferred as Governor of Maharahstra while senior Congress leader Prabha Rau was appointed as the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Manipur Governor SS Sidhu has been transferred to Goa and former Director General of BSF Gurbachan Singh Jagat was appointed as Manipur Governor, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman
said.
Seventy-six year-old Jamir, four time Chief Minister of Nagaland, has been holding the additional charge of Maharashtra Governor after SM Krishna left the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai and returned to Karnataka politics in March this year.
The appointment of Rau, currently president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and a known critic of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, will come into effect from the day she assumes her office.
Seventry-three-year-old Rau will replace Justice (retd) VS Kokje in Himachal Pradesh, the spokesman said.
Outgoing Maharshtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prabha Rau said the Gubernatorial post did not come as a surprise to her.
“The only thing not clear till now was when would the appointment be announced”, she said.
On her four years at the helm of Congress affairs in the state, Rau said she was ‘contented’. “I am very satisfied with what I was able to achieve. I have no regrets”, she said.
Sidhu, 79, a former Secretary General of International Civil Aviation Organisation, was also holding the additional charge of Meghalaya till July one. Sidhu was an IAS officer of 1952 batch.
Both Jamir and Sidhu will serve their respective states for the remaining period of their gubernatorial tenure.
Jagat, a 1966 batch Punjab cadre IPS officer, was DG of BSF and Jammu and Kashmir.
