MANSEHRA: The transporters here Monday postponed their wheel-jam strike and said they would decide their future course of action after their meeting with the National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman. Sources said the decision was taken at a meeting of the transporters here Monday, with District Nazim Sardar Mohammad Yousaf in the chair.
Earlier, the representatives of all transport unions had announced to stage a wheel-jam strike on Tuesday (today) after the district government turned down their demand of ending the toll plaza in Mansehra.
Following the October 8, 2005 earthquake, the NHA chairman had announced that the toll plaza would be abolished to give relief to people of affected areas, they said, adding after three months of the tragedy, the NHA had again started collecting tax.
They vowed to launch a movement against the toll plaza to force the NHA to end “the injustice” with the people. They said the strike was postponed in the past after the assurance of the district government that the toll plaza would either be ended or its revenue would be transferred to the district government and 30 percent increase would also be
withdrawn.
