PESHAWAR: The duration of electricity loadshedding would be reduced in the next few days but the consumers would have to help the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) by saving power, said the company chief executive Muhammad Qasim Khan on Monday.
Addressing a news conference at the Wapda House, he said in line with the directives of the Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, the duration of power loadshedding would be reduced in a few days.
However, he appealed to the consumers to ensure minimum use of electricity so that the energy crisis could be overcome. The consumers should follow the company guideline for saving electricity by switching off lights of all commercial plazas and shops till 8pm; use alternative lights in streets and industrial and commercial consumers cut their power use by 25 percent while energy-saver lights should be used in homes, he requested.
The Pesco chief said the only way to overcome the power crisis was to save electricity by minimizing its use as by switching a 100W bulb a consumer can save 230MW electricity. Regarding delay in submitting electricity bill due to increase in tariff, Qasim said the decision was not for the consumers of NWFP as the province case was already under trial in court and Pesco had not included the raise in tariff in the bills. The consumers should submit their bills by due date, he requested. The Pesco chief added that bank managers in the province had been asked to receive bills without 40 percent discount cut and delay in date, as it was not for the consumers of NWFP.
