Restoration of judges may occur after May 12: Naek
LAHORE: The judges sacked on November 3, 2007 may not necessarily be restored before May 12, Law Minister Farooq Naek said on Friday. Talking to Geo News, he said the new committee formed by the coalition would decide whether an executive order or new legislation would follow the National Assembly resolution to restore the judges. But he said the committee might not reach a consensus by May 12 — a date given by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif during a press conference in Lahore. Naek said the committee would forward the matter to Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz if it did not reach a decision by May 12. Dawn News quoted him as saying that the PPP believed in independence of judiciary and would not curtail its powers. He also denied that the chief justice would be barred from hearing certain cases including any dealing with National Reconciliation Ordinance. daily times monitor
