Iran will not surrender to world pressure : Khamenei

TEHRAN: Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Wednesday declared Iran would not surrender to world pressures over its contested nuclear program and would further step up its progress. "We are not afraid of Western sanctions," he told thousands of people in a speech in the southern city of Shiraz broadcast by state television. "The Iranian people, thanks to God, will resist in the face of sanctions and economic blockades and will further intensify their progress." "Threats will not force the Iranian nation to back down," it quoted him as saying on a visit to the southern Fars province. "We have transformed these threats and sanctions into opportunities and even according to our enemies we have become the number one power in the region," Khamenei said.
