Dengue Now IN Karachi: Pakistan

Dengue cases on the rise in Karachi

KARACHI: Dengue epidemic is once again raising its ugly head in Karachi as more than 100 patients have been confirmed dengue-positive in the city’s different hospitals so far, whereas Sindh health department insists that there are only 34 cases on record, Geo News reported.
Sources say the government hospitals are by no means prepared for any untoward situation. That is to say the hospitals drastically lack blood, platelets, and other facilities, which forces patients to resort to expensive private hospitals.
On average those “five-star” hospitals are charging around Rs8,000-11,000 for a bag of platelets.
To worsen the matters, accoordig to the Dengue Surveillance Cell of the health department, many of these “elite” hospitals were underreporting the incidence of cases fearing big figures might panic the patients and the population at large, the sources added.
