‘PPP not aware of May 12 deadline for restoration’

ISLAMABAD: PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar said on Friday that he was not aware of May 12 being fixed as the new deadline for the restoration of the sacked judges in a meeting between PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in Dubai. “Several decisions taken in the meeting, such as the restoration of the judges through a resolution, the accommodation of a working judiciary and bringing a constitutional package ... are true, but I am not aware of a date being fixed,” said Babar, adding that he could only comment on the matter after speaking to the co-chairman. He also expressed ignorance of President Pervez Musharraf contacting Zardari to express willingness to withdraw powers vested in him under Article 58 (2b). staff report
