Malik off to represent Daredevils

KARACHI: Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik announced on Sunday night that he would be travelling to the South Indian city of Hyderabad to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) without any kind of fears. Malik said that he is not expecting any problems in representing Delhi Daredevils in their IPL games in Hyderabad in spite of his feud with an Indian family which claims that he has married their daughter and is not granting her divorce as per Islamic laws. The Siddiquis, who are an affluent Hyderabad-based family, claim that Malik married their daughter Aisha in 2002 and is now refusing to divorce her. Malik has rejected their claims and says he never married Aisha and the girl’s family tried to trap him in an internet marriage scam. The girl’s father, MA Siddiqui, has threatened to move court in Hyderabad against Malik but the Sialkot-born player is not intimidated. The captain flew off from Karachi to Hyderabad where he is expected to feature in the Daredevils’ IPL clash against hosts Deccan Chargers. “I’ve already sent two legal notices to the Siddiquis to retract their claims and apologise for trying to defame me, and they have kept quiet on the notices,” he said. “If I had anything to hide or was afraid, I would not go to Hyderabad. I don’t expect there will be any kind of trouble for me in Hyderabad.” Malik, however, wasn’t sure whether he would be able to make the playing eleven for Delhi. “It is purely up to our captain Virender Sehwag if he even plays me because we already have eight overseas players in the side.”
