Kings XI Punjab record convincing 7-wkt win over Deccan Chargers

HYDERABAD DECCAN: Shaun Marsh made an unbeaten 84 on his IPL debut to help the Kings XI Punjab to a convincing seven-wicket win over Deccan Chargers here at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. Chasing 165 runs to win the match, the Kings XI Punjab achieved the target losing only three wickets with seven balls left. Shaun Marsh made 84 runs off 62 balls with eleven fours and one six while Jayawardene scored 45 off just 23 balls with six fours and one six. Both remained not out after adding 81 runs from 48 balls for the fourth wicket to see their team win their third consecutive match. Earlier, the Kings XI Punjab won the toss and put the Deccan Chargers into batting in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The hosts made 164 runs for eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs, due to splendid 76 by Rohit Sharma, and 48 by captain Venkata Sai Laxman as other batsmen failed to deliver. Sharma faced 42 balls for his 76, hitting ten fours and two sixes while Laxman struck eight fours. Pyush Chawla claimed three wickets for 28 runs while Irfan Pathan took two wickets and Sreesanth and Gagandip Singh got one wicket each.
