West Indian players to leave for national duty
West Indian captain Chris Gayle along with teammates Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan are expected to return to the West Indies on May 18. They will be relieved of their commitments in the ongoing DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) to prepare for the upcoming series against Australia.
All four players are participating in the Twenty20 tournament of the IPL which will conclude on June 1. News of their departure has been confirmed by West Indian Cricket Board CEO Dr Donald Peters. The players will return four days before the first Test against Australia which begins on May 22 at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
"We have informed the IPL that Gayle, Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Bravo will be returning on the 18th of May," Peters was quoted as saying. "Our arrangement with the IPL is that the players would be back for the (Digicel) home series."
The West Indian outfit will go into camp shortly before their clash against Australia which starts with a three day warm-up fixture on May 16.
The four cricketers are playing in the IPL for different teams: Dwayne Bravo for the Mumbai Indians; Shivnarine Chanderpaul for the Bangalore Royal Challengers; Ramnaresh Sarwan for the Kings XI Punjab; and Chris Gayle for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
