Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders to get first IPL win
KOLKATA: After suffering from the humiliation of four consecutive defeats, the Mumbai Indians at last succeeded in getting their first victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Chasing an easy target of 138 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Mumbai Indians started disastrously when they lost three wickets for only 25 runs.
However, Robin Uthappa and Dwayne Bravo came to rescue and took the score steadily to get their team win the match by seven wickets with eight balls remaining.
Bravo scored an unbeaten 64 off 53 balls with eight fours and one six while Uthappa remained not out on 37 off the same number of balls with five fours.
The Kolkata Knight Riders lost their second successive match in the tournament
Bollywood king Shahruk Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders lost their second successive match in the IPL.
After winning the toss and elected to bat, they were restricted by Mumbai Indians to 137 runs for eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Laxmi Shukla was the top scorer with 40 runs off 22 balls with four fours and two sixes while Debabrata Das made 29.
Sanath Jayasuriya took three for 14, the best figures of the tournament, while stand-in captain Shaun Pollock claimed two wickets to give the struggling Mumbai Indians a great chance to pull off their first win.
