Geri Halliwell writes kids' books

Geri Halliwell says her Ugenia Lavender children's books are "a rebirth of girl power." The books follow the adventures of nine-year-old Ugenia and her friends. The Spice Girls singer has signed a six-book deal with publishers Macmillan. Geri said: "I've really pulled myself into it. I actually feel like she [Ugenia] is a rebirth of girl power." Geri Halliwell is the latest celebrity to write children's books. Model Katie Price released Perfect Ponies last year and Madonna has written several, including The English Roses and Mr. Peabody's Apples. Ginger Spice also says she based one of the characters in Ugenia Lavender on fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. But that character didn't make it into the final edition. Speaking of the other characters in the book that did make it, she said: "There's a celebrity chef who's her uncle who's slightly highly strung, so you could say there's a little bit of Gordon Ramsay. "But then you could say there's a little bit of George Michael in there. "And Victoria [Beckham], there was a Princess Vattoria and she was in the early drafts. "She might have a guest appearance. But she read the originals and thought it was cute. It's quite flattering isn't it? "It's like the Simpsons, when you have a cameo. But I wanted the stories to be strong enough in themselves. They are character-led."
