Punjab wheat purchase continues in full swing LAHORE: The campaign for the purchase of wheat in Punjab is underway in full swing and the government has made arrangement for making payment to the growers forthwith, while the staff of the food department has been directed to provide all possible help to the cultivators, said the Punjab government spokesman here. In a statement released here, the spokesman said that 2 million tons of wheat has thus far been purchased due to timely supply of ‘bardana’, while this wheat purchase campaign would continue until the growers want it. The statement further said that the provincial government this time has adopted a comprehensive strategy for combating wheat smuggling and hoarding, while government statistics showed that enough wheat from local production existed in the province that could meet the needs of besides Punjab, NWFP and Balochistan also.
