Lahore : Dictator’s filth, political garbage must be removed: CM

PUNJAB Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said a comprehensive, organised and transparent system of cleanliness is being launched in Lahore with the collaboration of Turk companies.


He said that due to the system a visible change would be witnessed in the provincial metropolis during the next three months. He said that Lahore is the city of flowers and gardens and its beauty would be revived and it would be made a neat and clean city like Istanbul and other international cities so as to raise the living standard of Lahorites.

He was addressing a function on the topic of new solid waste management city in Lahore at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Wednesday. Representatives of Turk companies, Kh Ahmad Hasaan, assembly members, government officers and a large number of citizens were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said that an organised system of cleanliness had been evolved for the provincial metropolis due to hard work and efforts of the last three years. He said that modern machinery for cleanliness had been acquired with the collaboration a private company of Turkey. He said that after Lahore, the scope of this system would be extended to other cities of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Multan, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. He said that clean environment was a basic right of every citizen and collective efforts were needed for the success of the new system.

The chief minister said that a huge sum of 2.5 billion was being spent annually on the cleanliness of Lahore, however, due to the problems of solid waste management, the new system had been introduced with the cooperation of Turkey. He said that technically it was a comprehensive project. He said that Turk government and people helped Pakistan generously in the relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees and a sum of 200 million dollars was sent for this purpose. Similarly, Turk brethrens went to the calamity-hit areas and shared Eid joys with the flood victims. He said that the Turk company had not come to Lahore to earn profit but on the request of the provincial government. He said that an investment of billions of rupees had been made for the solid waste management project in Lahore. 

He said that dictatorial filth, political garbage and trash in any form must be removed. He said that in fact Turk brethrens had not forgotten the expression of solidarity with Turkey by Muslims of the subcontinent during Khilafat Movement 80 years ago. 

electronic media: Shahbaz Sharif has said that the role of the media is of great importance in society.Therefore, media should raise voice in favour of the deprived and the oppressed people, he added. 

He was addressing oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office-bearers of Electronic Media Reporters Association and Electronic Media News Cameramen Association at Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Wednesday. He said that the electronic media had played an important role and highlighted the sad incident that took place during the by-elections in Sindh.

He also announced convening a meeting in the next week for resolution of the problems of the people associated with the electronic media and assured that Punjab government would take all possible steps for the welfare of these people. Earlier, he administered oath to the newly elected office-bearers of Electronic Media Reporters Association and Electronic Media News Cameramen Association.

office-bearers: Chief Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N Punjab President Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has appointed Chaudhry Jaffer Iqbal and Raja Ishfaq Sarwar as senior vice presidents of PML-N Punjab due to their services for the party.
